Outstanding Local PTA Programs & Events
Family Engagement is critical to the success of your PTA. Creating a positive environment and strong school to family connections helps drive memberships, increase volunteers and create a successful learning environment.
Recognize and celebrate the work your PTA is doing to promote positive Family-School partnerships by nominating yourselves for an award! Your work will be recognized and celebrated at the Hunt District Spring Meeting and one PTA in each awards category will be forwarded to the State to represent the District in the State Local Unit Awards program.
Your PTA must be in "Good Standing" with Virginia PTA to be eligible for awards.
Family Engagement Award Celebrate your work building family and parent engagement based on National PTAs Standards for Family-School Partnerships by describing at least two (2) items from each of six (6) standards and one (1) original innovation.
Standard 1: Welcoming All Families into the School Community (15 points)
Standard 2: Communicating Effectively (15 points)
Standard 3: Supporting Student Success (15 points)
Standard 4: Speaking Up for Every Child (15 points)

Originality and Innovation (10 points)
Describe which of your programs/events mentioned in the application did not exist in your school/district/community prior to this challenge, or how you significantly changed/enhanced an existing program/event to improve the home-school health climate. You may also describe a new event that does not necessarily fall into any of the above categories that has significantly changed family engagement at your school.
Male Engagement Award Celebrate your successes creating meaningful activities and programs for male role models by sharing information about at least two events and how you have changed behavior or involvement.
Describe, in detail, your male engagement activities and goals and include a minimum of two (2) activities your PTA implemented to achieve the Award Purpose/goal. (25 points)
On which of the National Standards for Family-School Partnerships did your program focus? (25 points)

Diversity & Inclusion Award Creating a climate of Diversity & Inclusion can help PTAs gain strength and effectiveness through increased participation by underrepresented groups. Celebrate the programs and events you have developed to adapt to the needs of your diverse community and create a warm welcoming environment.
Does your PTA’s current membership and leadership reflect the demographics of your PTA families, school and community? What differences characterize the children, families, neighborhoods and schools served by your PTA? (20 points)
How does your PTA communicate effectively by adapting to the needs of your diverse school community? Describe, in detail, how your PTA reached out to traditionally underrepresented groups. Include a minimum of two (2) activities your PTA implemented. (25 points)
Give examples of how your PTA engaged diverse families using the National Standards for Family-School Partnerships as a framework. (25 points)
Describe how your PTA created and collaborated with community based organizations and other groups that are active in the neighborhoods served by your PTA. How were you able to share resources to better connect your PTA with traditionally underrepresented families? (20 points)
Describe and give at least two examples of how your PTA served as an information resource for parents, families, educators and community groups. (10 points)
